before i get started i just want to say i hope you all had a very merry xmas and i hope all of you have a safe an happy new year. now to my problem ,i have a b6000e kubota .an i have been told u have to use the glow plugs each an every time u start it,my question is this .the glow plug switch an start switch are one an the same ,u turn left for glow plugs an right to start. once you get the glow plugs hot an turn switch to start ,while you are trying ti start it the glow plugs are cooling down.can i install a heavy duty toggle switch for the glow plugs .that way while i am trying to start it the glow plugs will remain hot an maybe help start it better.does anyone know if i can do this .please let me know .thanks for reading this

in cold weather 2 min or more heating time .in warmn weather prob 1 min maybe a little more. ....

You should be able to. If I remember right the JD 4000 series you push the key in to activate the Glow plugs and you can push it in if necessary as engine starts. I do not think it is necessary on these engines.
That said: On our D8 at work you use the glow plugs for 2 minutes or more at 0F and once engine cranks you can and must turn switch back to glow. It takes awhile to get it to smooth out at a fast idle. The newer engines usually fire right up and run smooth with out 2nd use of glow plugs. ....

That sounds like an excessive amount of glow plug time to start. Have you verified that all the glow plugs are working properly? Once you get the initial fire off and good oil pressure; you should immediately increase the idle rpm up about 200-300 rpm to about 1,000 to 1,200 rpm so the engine will build some heat and warm up. A diesel at low idle will never warm up in cold weather. ....

One the plugs are hot they will not get any hotter regardless of how long you hold the switch. I am "guessing" that if you are holding the on for 1 to 2 minutes you have some bad plugs. Normal activation time is 15 to 30 seconds. If I am not mistaken you tractor will have an indicator on the dash with a little hole in the center. When that coil is red your plugs are as hot as the y are going to get. You may have to cycle a couple times but holding long does nothing to help. ....

I believe that that model an an electrical coil that turned red on the dash and they can take a minute easy enough. I think it also had a decompression lever or knob to pull till the engine was up in cranking speed. It is still not a bad idea to know that the glow plugs are working right. ....

My L245 had a decompression knob and the little electical coil that turned red when the glow plugs got hot. As I recall, the manual stated that 20 - 25 seconds of glow plug heat was sufficient for most starts. I forgot what the temp. perameters were. I did not use the decompression for starting although it was demostrated to me on a cold start when I first purchased the tractor. ....

ok another question ? how do i check the glow plugs to make sure that they are getting hot enough ?it is a 2 cilinder by the way. also what means do i use to check it with. thanks ....
